Low-Stress High-Joy Holidays

Holiday gatherings with food and friends are such a treat, yet there is often stress connected with these good times.  Whether it is prepping dinner for a crowd, traveling across town or across the country, preparing for houseguests, or being a houseguest, navigating the myriad of daily must-do’s while maintaining a sparkling mood is tricky.

Here are my own ways to relish the holidays:

1. Meditate - I find this is the best way to let go of the stress and put the holidays back into perspective. I’ve been practicing for two years, and I am still learning. This excellent guide to meditation will help keep your cool, if not at ease with all the hubbub.  FYI: a favorite teacher

2. Journal - If meditation isn’t your thing, use these stress reducing journaling prompts to let go of your anxieties and worry. Any copy book or pen and paper will do. I keep a dedicated journal that acts as a safe haven and sees plenty of action during the season.

3. Exercise - Take the festivities outside. Go for a run, take a walk, find a nature trail to enjoy, anything to leave the house and change the setting.  And with holiday meals, my family heads to the backyard between dinner and dessert for a game of bocce. Neither snow, nor rain, nor cold keeps my family from this tradition. A quick game is the perfect remedy for overeating, awkward silences, uncomfortable moments, and, best of all, it helps make room for yummy dessert!

Practice these, and you will be in a ready to survive & thrive mode.

Good Cheer to all!

FOR YOUR LIFE, FOR YOUR FAMILY, FOR YOUR HOME, BOTH INSIDE & OUT, LET’S GO!
